Description
The French National Olympic and Sport Committee has two specific missions
1) IOC representative in France
In its capacity as a National Olympic Committee recognised by the IOC, the purpose of the French National Olympic and Sport Committee is:
- To promote the fundamental principles of Olympism, in particular to take action against all forms of discrimination in sport and contribute to the dissemination of Olympism values.
- To participate in activities which support peace and promote women in sport and to take responsible account of environmental and sustainable development issues.
- To create, organise and lead the French delegation for the Olympic Games and for regional, continental or world multi-sport competitions sponsored by the IOC.
- To choose a French city to apply to organise the Olympic Games and to lead all preparatory work for that purpose.
- To work – pursuant to the principles laid down by the Olympic Charter – to keep harmony and cooperation with the State, public authorities and any organisation which may contribute to the development of sport but also to preserving the fundamental principles and values of Olympism.
2) French Sport Movement Representative
In its capacity as representative of the French Sports Movement, the purpose of the French National Olympic and Sports Committee is:
- To promote the unity of the Sport Movement including sports federations, sports associations and companies affiliated with them and their licensees and other practitioners and to take legal action to defend the collective interests of the Sports Movement.
- To undertake, on behalf of federations or with them and in respect of their prerogatives, any activity of mutual interest which encourages and ensures the development and performance of high-performance sport, including professional sport.
- To facilitate sports practice for all and generally contribute to educational activities through sport.
- To develop the international influence of France through its activities, missions and international events organised in France by its members.
