THE ADIDAS BREAKING BARRIERS PROJECT: ADVANCING GENDER EQUITY IN SPORT

In sport, women and girls face systemic barriers. Every. Single. Day. From lack of access and representation, to cultural stigma and self-doubt, women and girls are too often left on the sidelines and off the pitch. We’re here to change that.

The adidas Breaking Barriers Project is a commitment from adidas to breaking down these barriers for women and girls in sport across Europe. Together with our partners Common Goal, Women Win, and Soccer Without Borders, we have developed an intensive program that works directly with nonprofit sport organizations, empowers local leaders and coaches and, through the Breaking Barriers Academy, provides the industry with the necessary tools to lead change.

UNITED AGAINST PLASTIC WASTE

We see the possibilities to make what's best for the athlete better for the planet. So we're creating products with recycled materials, making products to be remade and developing products made with nature. We want the world to see the possibilities and take action to help end plastic waste, so we always have places to play.

Every year, in partnership with Parley for the Oceans, we host an event called Run for the Oceans, where we encourage participants to run, walk, or wheelchair to raise money for plastic debris cleanup on islands and beaches.

But that’s not all. We’re also putting that plastic to use. In 2020, we produced 30 million shoes made from Parley Ocean Plastic. By 2024, we aim to make all of our shoes and clothing from 100% recycled polyester.

OUR THREE LOOP STRATEGY

As we know, we have a problem: the plastic that is clogging up our oceans, killing wildlife, and poisonously seeping into everything we consume. With innovation, we have the means to help end plastic waste and eventually reach our goal of becoming a fully circular company. To help us get there, we’ve got a plan.

Made from recycled materials:

This material isn't a solution to saving our oceans, but it's a start. Made with re-imagined plastic waste, intercepted from remote islands, beaches, coastal communities, and shorelines.

Made to be remade:

Wear it down, then return it. We'll remake it into something new. The end of one product is the beginning of the next one. This is made for performance. This is Made To Be Remade.

Made with nature:

Our new era of footwear is designed to look for more responsible solutions. From eco-innovation designed to mimic biology to pioneering plant-based yarns, our material changes put our athletes—and our planet—first.
