First world champion in the history of French swimming, in 1998 in the 200m backstroke, European champion in 1999 and Olympic vice-champion in 2000 in Sydney in the same distance, Roxana Maracineanu was appointed Minister for Sport on Tuesday 4 September 2018 by Prime Minister Édouard Philippe. The former Mulhouse Olympic Swimming (MON) swimmer worked as a media consultant at the end of her career in the pools and was then elected Regional Councillor for Ile-de-France from 2010 to 2015. Roxana Maracineanu, who is very involved in the associative world - in particular, she has founded associations that offer a new approach to teaching families how to swim - is the mother of three children (Nina, Cléo and Kimi). Since July 2020, Roxana Maracineanu has been appointed Minister Delegate in charge of Sports to Jean-Michel Blanquer, Minister of National Education, Youth and Sports.
